Ward 5 Festival
With the support of Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, Friendly Inn
Settlement, Inc., Central Family to Family Collaborative, and BBC,
every summer, residents unite and celebrate the historical past and
bright future of Ward 5 neighborhoods at the annual Ward 5 Community
Family Parade and Festival.
The theme of this family event is “Ward 5 United: Working Together as One,” which was crafted by area youth as a symbol of how this festival is a conduit to positive change, creative ideas, and fun activities for the Ward 5 neighborhoods.
The first family festival started in 2006 located at Friendly Inn Settlement, Inc., 2386 Unwin Road, near East 55th Street and Quincy Avenue. In 2007, the festival was “kicked off” by a parade in which Mayor Frank Jackson, Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, representatives from community groups and local businesses, and residents walked.
Festival entertainment included dance, music, drama and poetry, with performances by the Rockin Robots, Richard McClendon the Magician, and jazz musicians. Activities, such as face painting, bracelet making, and inflatable playground equipment, were available for the enjoyment of children. The event also featured free food, the City of Cleveland Show Wagon, senior activities, service providers distributing informational materials, health screenings, merchant and food venders, and much, much more!
BBC is proud to help bring this event to life for the community at large. The success of this event is attributed to past sponsors Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, the City of Cleveland, Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, Friendly Inn Settlement, Inc., Citizens of Cuyahoga County Ombudsman Office, Cuyahoga Community College, Cuyahoga County Recorder’s Office, Lewis West, Cleveland Public Powers, Steps to a Healthier Cleveland, Tapestry, St. Vincent Charity Hospital Outreach, Building Healthy Communities, McDonalds, Rysar Properties, KeyBank, Cleveland Public Power, and BBC.
