Home Maintenance Workshops

Since 2003, BBC's Home Maintenance Workshops have afforded community residents the opportunity to learn how to make simple repairs on their homes, from lighting a hot water tank to fixing a toilet.

These sessions, which are facilitated by Joseph L. Jones, BBC's Real Estate Development Director, are typically held twice a month in a model house in the summer months. They are open to all residents free of charge, regardless of whether they own or rent their homes or if they live in a newly-constructed or longstanding house.

Guest lecturers in past sessions have included Cleveland Police Department personnel discussing how residents can remain safe in their homes and contractors that specialize in a particular trade. BBC's housing repair staff also notifies attendees about various programs that may be available to them from various governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Curriculum is driven by participants, who are encouraged to ask any and all questions they may have in regards to problems in their homes or how to make repairs. Following the class, residents can speak one-on-one with a home repair experts and receive free consultation about issues in their homes.
